INTRAMURALS 2016


Intramurals, a term which is chiefly North American, derived from the Latin words intramuros meaning “within walls”, and was used to describe sports matches and contests that took place among teams from “within the walls” of an institution or area.

On November 22, 2016, St. Theresita’s Academy celebrated the most anticipated event of the school year. The Intramurals 2016 was officially opened by the warm welcome from the school directress, Sr. Natividad Maravilla, SSJ.

The events were the following: Swimming (Freestyle, Backstroke, Brest Stroke, and Butterfly Stroke both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels as well as 4×25 Freestyle, and 4×25 medley both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels) which was held at Sunburst Resort, Silay City; Throwing events (Shot Put, Discus Throw, and Javelin Throw both for boys and girls in the high school levels); Athletics (25m Dash, 50m Dash, 100m Dash, 4×25 m Dash Relay, 4x50m Dash Relay, and 4x100m Dash Relay both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels); Obstacle Relay (for both boys and girls in the pre-school and primary levels); Tug of War (for both boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels); Basketball (both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels); Soft Volley (both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels); Volleyball (both for boys and girls in the primary, intermediate and high school levels); Handball (both for boys and girls in the intermediate and high school levels); Badminton (singles and doubles event for both boys and girls in the intermediate and high school levels); Chess games (both for boys and girls in the intermediate and high school levels); Standing Long Jump (both for boys and girls in the intermediate and high school levels) and a Mini-Marathon held from Guinhalaran bridge towards St. Theresita’s Academy.

The events continued until November 23-24, 2016 developing camaraderie and enthusiasm in the hearts of Theresians. On November 25, 2016 (Friday) which was supposed to be the schedule for the awarding ceremony and continuation of the championship games for the remaining events, classes were canceled since typhoon Marce landed on the region’s vicinity. It was announced on televisions that there was a typhoon and reached signal no.1. It was then the announcement from the school principal to cancel the classes to avoid further accidents which may happen as a result of weather condition.

IntramuralsThe events continued on November 28, 2016 and the championship for the badminton games in the morning of the next day, November 29, 2016. In the afternoon on the same day 29th of November, the awarding ceremony was held at the St. Joseph’s Hall. Recognizing the efforts and eagerness of the students to make the Intramurals successful, certificates and medals were given out giving happiness to each and every one. Patting of shoulders could be seen during the recognition ceremony, congratulating the winners of each event. In the end, the Grade 7 won as the 5th placer with 251 points, Grade 8 won as the 4th placer with 336 points, Grade 11 won as the 3rd placer with 451 points, Grade 9 won as the 2nd placer with 508 points, and the Grade 10 won the 1st place for this year’s Intramurals with a total of 631 points.

It took four days and a half to finish all the athletic sports and events before the awarding of winners on the 29th day of November, 2016. Indeed, it was a memorable part in the life of theresians, a wonderful experience to be shared with other people in the future, and unforgettable memories that every theresians would keep in their minds and hearts.
